(A.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. An Auckland taxi-driv-er. Mr M. Campbell, of 56 Anderson road, Point England, is becoming experienced at midwifery. On Saturday he '.elivered his fourth bab . It was the third child born in the back seat of a taxi owned by Mr Campbell. The mother, Mrs Te Aroha Penewi, aged 17, of 17 Tuakiri street, Glen Innes, had planned '.o go mussel-picking with her
mother and two sisters at St Heliers Bay. They took a taxi to the beach. Mrs Penewi was not feeling well when she left home and when she got out of the taxi she realised her baby was coming. Her mother ran back to ask the taxi-driver to take her daughter to hospital, but he had already been directed to pick up another fare. The driver called u his
base station and Mr Campbell was rushed to St. Heliers from Panmure.
“As soon as I got there I realised we did not have time to get to a hospital,” said Mr Campbell, “so I just had to deliver the baby on the spot.”
An ambulance was called and Mrs Penewi and her baby, a girl, were taken to the Nat.onal Women’s Hospital. Mother and baby were both reported to be doing well in hospital today.
