POLYTHENE BIPORTS

Australia Plans Protective Duty

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, Jan. 16. Australia has taken protective action against imports of polythene monofil and polythene rope. The Minister of Trade (Mr John McEwen) said imports of monfil would be subject to temporary duties, in addition to ordinary duties, if the price were less than 45 per lb, f.o.b. Quantitative restriction would be imposed on imports of polythene rope, limiting them to one-third of the annual imports in 1964 and 1965. At a special inquiry, evidence was given that landed cost of Japanese imports was less than the Australian production cost.
