FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A slow-moving anti-cyclone in the central Tasman Sea extends over northern and central New Zealand. A depression south-east of Tasmania is moving eastwards and should reach the south of the South Island late today. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Fresh winds, north-easter-lies about the coast, north-westerlies inland; fine and warm, except for showers in the Alps. Outlook: Unsettled.

Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh north to north-west winds, strong and gusty in exposed places about Cook Strait; cloud increasing in western areas of Nelson, otherwise fine; mild temperatures. Outlook: Unsettled. Buller and Westland.—Freshening northerlies ; light rain, probably becoming heavy in Westland this afternoon; rather mild. Outlook : Unsettled.
