TWO FIELD DAYS

r rilE Upper Mackenzie branch of Federated Farmers will hold a field day on properties along the Haldon road next Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Mackenzie stream bridge. There will be visits to Glenrock, Grampians, Haldon, Grays Hills, and Whalesback stations, with discussions being held on each station on subjects including development, the value of swamp development, drainage systems, lucerne and sweet briar.

In the evening there will be a session at the Tekapo hall when speakers will discuss impediments to development, land development finance, development techniques and Crown policy towards the high country. Persons attending the field day will need to bring their own lunch and a cup. Tea, milk and sugar will be provided during the day. No charge will be made for the day, but dinner and supper

will cost 10s. The Winchmore irrigation research station is also holding a field day on Wednesday, February 2, beginning at 9.30 a.m.

Subjects which will be dealt with during the day will include soil fertility and the use of superphosphate and possible developments in fertiliser use for the Lismore and allied soils of Canterbury and Otago, lucerne and pasture topdressing, pasture production potentials from irrigated areas, and the science of water use, lucerne production and management for the Lismore soils, animal production studies (visitors will again have an opportunity to inspect the high carrying capacity irrigated area which is maintaining its seven ewe to the acre stocking rate), irrigation research and automatic irrigation, and irrigation of potatoes.

Tea will be provided at this field day, but visitors should bring their lunch and a cup.
