Harvesting Of Certified Grain

‘WHE presence of foreign A grains in some lines of certified wheat during recent years has prompted merchants to take some action to eliminate this trouble,” says Mr D. B. Annand, president of the New Zealand Grain, Seed, and Produce Merchants’ Federation.

“In future merchants will ask their growers, who produce certified grains, to keep the first three sacks off the header separate at harvest time and to hold back these three sacks when the rest of the line is sent forward to be sold for seed purposes.

“Usually the quantity of certified grain produced exceeds the quantity actually required for seed, and it is the intention of merchants that lines from which the first three sacks have been kept out will be given preference over other lines. “It is in the producer’s own

interest that this request of merchants be complied with and all growers are urged to see that this is done. “In the case of growers who harvest in bulk and bag the grain in the corner of the paddock, it is suggested that the first load off the header should be kept separate as the entire load will have a certain amount of foreign grain in it from the previous paddock in which the particular header was used.”
