STAMP STORY
Australian shipping company was awarded a subsidy for maintaining a regular service to the islands. Under the terms of the subsidy the use of local stamps was prohibited. Quite large quantities of the company’s stamps were in stock, and these were sold to a dealer. This is why unused examples can still be quite easily obtained. Not until 1908 did the New Hebrides have a settled government. In that year was set up the Anglo-French condominium which continues to administer the islands to this day.
