Noah Used Bitumen

"THERE is historical evidence and archaeological evidence that oil has been used for many thousands of years—seepage oil usually obtained on the surface, sometimes heavy oil of a bitumen type which was used for such operations as sealing mummies or sealing coffins, and cementing bricks together as in some of the Sumerian temples. It is believed that when Moses was floated in a little cradle in the bullrushes, to be found by Pharoah’s daughter, his basket was cemented with bitumen to make it watertight. It is generally believed that Noah’s ark was caulked with bitumen.”—Dr. Peter Kent, technical manager of the B.P. exploration department.
