Dunedin Fine Wool Market Firmer

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 14. The market opened strongly for fine wools in Dunedin today, these types being up to 2| per cent dearer compared with the Timaru sale. Fine and medium crossbreds as compared with recent sales were firm, but strong crossbreds were inclined to be a little easier.

A catalogue of 24,300 bales was offered to a full representative bench of buyers. “The offering comprised mainly crossbred ewe and wether wools with a fair proportion of merino and halfbred, together with a small selection of woolly hoggets and the usual oddments,” says the official report. “For this time of the season, the wools displayed were reasonably good but some lines were marred by tenderness of staple. Southern clips reflected the wet season, being short in staple, and many North Otago wools were showing dust. Oddments and pieces were not quite up to the usual standard.” The Continent were principal buyers, with support from Japan. Bradford buyers were comparatively quiet Local mills were competing on good style merinos and fine halfbreds. Range of Prices The official prices range is: Fine Merino. 64/
