Pickling Line Opened

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) SYDNEY, Jan. 14. The Broken Hill Proprietary Company, Ltd, has announced the successful commissioning of a new £sm high-speed pickle line at the flat products division of the Hoskins Kembla works. This new unit completes the installations needed to prepare steel strip for tinplate manufacture, and for further cold ratling. Until now, pickling work for the Australian iron and siteel flat products division has been carried out by arrangement with John Lysaght (Australia) Ltd. The line is installed in a building, 1100 ft long and 80ft wide, allowing for subsequent installation of a second unit. Future addition of a singlestand two-high skiin pass mill will allow an annual throughput of up to Im tons, at a line speed of 1000 ft a minute.

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 14. Net overseas assets of the New Zealand banking system on January 5, 1966, were £48.201, compared with £51.3m on December 30, 1965, and —£62.2m on January 6, 1965. These figures were announced today by the Reserve Bank.
