Gold-Painted Body Found
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON, January 14. Police had to protect a 54-year-old nurse from a lynch mob yelling “Death to the witch” after a boy’s body was found inside her home.
The body of the nine-year-old child was painted gold—like the dead girl in the James Bond film “Goldfinger.” It was found in a cupboard at the home of Addolorata Astore in Parabita, Southern Italy, after police broke down the door. There were burn marks on the arms and legs. The dead boy was Luigi de Matteis, a popular child in Parabita, a village which clings to ancient superstitions. Police believe the killing may have been a sacrificial offering, aimed at making the child a saint. Luigi had been missing for six days during which many of the 9000 villagers had joined a police search. Miss Astore was arrested as she returned home after praying in the village church.
