THE KOWHAI is accepted widely as the national floral emblem of New Zealand. The multitude of pea-shaped yellow flowers of the common species, Sophora tetraphera, can be seen brightening the countryside all over New Zealand during October. Propagation from seed is relatively easy but can be assisted by first soaking in hot water before sowing.
