LEANDER TROPHY
Unique Has Big Lead (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI. The Canterbury boat, Unique, sailed by C. and G. Cooke, had established a commanding lead after the first two races in the Leander Trophy R class national championship at Whangarei yesterday. The brothers won both races and held a lead of nearly 100 points after the first day’s racing. Five boats withdrew with broken gear during the morning race, including the local entry, Shoulao, which broke a boom. The race was completed in about 1} hours in strengthening wind. Birch, Northland), 5; Rho IR. and P. Vernon, Auckland), 6; Shindig (D. Gardner and R. Palmer, Northland), 7; Voodoo, 8; Chamois (S. Montgomery and P. Harrison, Wellington), 9: Repeat (M.
