JUNIORS SHOW TOP FORM

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The nonchalant manner in which the fourth-seeded D. Cassidy, of Auckland, yesterday beat the fifth seed, K. Woolcott (Hutt Valley) would suggest that today’s semifinals in the New Zealand under 19 boys’ singles championship will be vigorously

contested by four players who are very much in form. Cassidy, and his opponent in the semi-final, O. Parun (Wellington), have each won one of their last two meetings, while the other semifinalists, J. Mitchell (Canterbury) and B. F. Fairlie (Auckland), are both reaching the peak of their form after their preparation in Australia earlier in the month.

Cassidy yesterday took less than 40 minutes to dispose of Woolcott, 6-1, 6-2. He stroked his ground shots with great assurance, while his overhead and net play functioned smoothly. In the quarter-finals of the under 19 girls’ singles, the No. 2 seed, Miss Margaret Kynaston (Australia), was well contained by her Auckland opponent. Miss Denise Kerr-Taylor, for the early part of both sets, but Miss Kynaston applied the pressure for a 6-4, 6-3 win. In a semi-final match, Miss Kynaston then comfortably beat Miss June Elliott (Manawatu), 6-1, 6-3. Today Miss Deidre KerrTaylor will meet the reigning champion, Miss Beverly Vercoe, in the other semifinal. Emerson Is Top Seed (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) SYDNEY. The Wimbledon champions, R.
