INSPECTION BY AIR

Four Forests Checked

Forest officials made a 140mile aerial tour of the Eyrewell, Balmoral, Ashley and Omihi forests yesterday. The senior ranger in Canterbury (Mr T. E. C. Bridge) said later that the tour had been made to check the conditions in and around the forests, to check radio equipment and to observe additional windthrow at Eyrewell All had been satisfactory. Mr Bridge described the fire risk as moderately dangerous, although vegetation within the forests was dry. Very few people had been seen camping around the perimeters of the forests. At Eyrewell forest, the ranger (Mr F. Russell) had noted very little additional windthrow.

Radio equipment used in the forests was found by Mr N. Mitchell to be working satisfactorily.
