MINERS GO TO SCHOOL
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, January 12. Miners who have been transferred to Yorkshire pits from other areas are being sent back to school to learn local nicknames for pit equipment. The National Coal Board is drawing up a dictionary of slang terms used in the colliery. It will be used at the board’s group training centre, near Doncaster. More than 300 mining terms in common use all over Yorkshire have so far been collected.
