BANNED FILMS
16 Last Year "The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, Jan. 12. New Zealand film censors last year refused certificates of approval to 16 feature films. Also not approved were one short film and fifteen “trailers.” Filmgoers were not the onlypeople affected. Television viewers were prevented from seeing 33 TV movies which were also refused certificates [of approval by the Censor of Films (Mr D. C. Mclntosh). I The titles of feature films |not approved included: “Vice and Virtue,” “Prostitution," i “The Diary of a Chamber- | maid,” “Kitten with a Whip,” | “The Downward Path." and :“The Strangler.” Others banned were: “Nightmare." “Shock Treatment,” “The Small World of SammyLee.” “Teenage Jungle.” “The Virgin of Nuremburg,” “Ladyin a Cage,” “The Balcony,’ “Shock Corridor," “Thimios and the Big Stars,” and “Young Fury.” An appeal against the rejection of the film “Prostitution” was allowed subject to the title being changed to “The White Slavers’ and the film being restricted to persons 18 and over. The censor’s decision was upheld in appeals against his rejection of the films “Nightmare,” “Vice and Virtue,” “The Small World of Sammy Lee,” and “The Balcony." Two 16mm films, “African Conflict” and “Africa's Charter of Unity,” were also refused certificates.
Dinghy Claimed. The dinghy which drifted across the Sumner bar on Monday and which members of the Sumner Life-saving Club afterwards brought ashore has been claimed by its owner.
