Morris Francis Was Promoted To First
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH. Morris Francis and General Gilbert, which had fought out a desperate finish in the main race at Kumara last Saturday, repeated the performance at Reef ton yesterday. General Gilbert again won narrowly but the placings were reversed because of interference over the final furlong. Morris Francis was again a warm favourite, with General Gilbert second choice. The second leg of the double was won by the consistent Nelson-owned and trained So Lovely. The double dividend was £l4 19s 6d for £l. The meeting was held in fine weather and the track was in good order. On-course investments totalled £15,008 10s, including £1517 10s on the double, compared with £10,757 last year when the meeting was in November. Silver Kingdom, Morris Francis, White Skies and General Gilbert began best in the County Handicap. With a round to go, First Time had reached the front. He was followed by Silver . Kingdom, Clipper. White ; Skies, General Gilbert and I Morris Francis. I General Gilbert took the lead before rounding the ; home turn and put a break of three lengths on the field. Morris Francis challenged strongly but failed by a neck to catch General Gilbert. Silver Kingdom was three i lengths away third, a neck ahead of the fast-finishing Glenmist. Lady York was next, then came Clipper, First Time, Duplex and White Skies. Silver Princess began well in the Springs Hack Handicap. She led past the stand rfrom Sir Limond, Mission 'Girl, Bolenza and Eastburn, j At the half-mile Sir Lim- ■ ond led Silver Princess by a j length with a gap of three ; lengths to Bolenza which was followed by Eastburn. I With 100 yards to go So (Lovely reached the front and
ran on to win easily by two lengths from Mission Girl which finished fast, threequarters of a length ahead of Silver Princess. Sir Limond was a poor fourth and then came Bolonza, Gilpey, Eastburn and Handsome Lass. Results:
