SUCCESSFUL HOLIDAY

An Australian archer on a working holiday in New Zealand, J. Wade, yesterday won the national hunters’ round championship, held in the bush at the back of Oxford. He scored 318 points to beat the prominent Dunedin competitor, B. Arnott, by three points in a close contest. This was the concluding event in the New Zealand archery championships, which began on Saturday. Wade’s score of 318 points was a good one, making his decision to bring his archery gear with him from Australia a profitable one. Wade was to have been a

member of the official Australian team to compete in the championships before its visit was cancelled.

Mrs V. Tetley (Mangere) gave an impressive display to beat Arnott's wife, Mrs L. Arnott, in the women’s section. She scored 179 points. Arnott emerged the national men’s field champion, with an aggregate of 886 points. His wife won the women’s field aggregate, with 526. A third field aggregate to be won by a Dunedin archer went to S. Franklin in the intermediate grade. More than 70 competitors contested the final events yesterday. Results were:—
