Petrie Wants Three For Record

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND.

E. C. Petrie, the 38-year-old Northern Districts, and former Auckland and New Zealand wicket-keeper, needs only three more dismissals to become the most successful keeper in New Zealand cricket history. At the start of this season Petrie had 208 dismissals, five behind the record held by F. L. H. Mooney, of Wellington and New Zealand.

In the four Plunket Shield matches this season Petrie has had, by comparison with past seasons, a lean time, with only two catches and one stumping. His next chance, and perhaps his last this season, to break the record will be in the Northern Districts - Wellington match starting at Hamilton on January 31. Mooney set his record in 90 matches, with 161 catches and 52 stump-

ings. Petrie so far has played in 104 matches, and has 179 catches and 23 stumpings.

The third most successful wicketkeeper is K. C. James, of Wellington and New Zealand, who, between 1923 and 1947, played 100 games for 132 catches and 66 stumpings. J. T. Ward (Canterbury and New Zealand), who is in temporary retirement, is fourth in the list with 71 dismissals (56 caught, 15 stumped) from 67 games.
