Mr Shastri’s Legacy
Sir, —In your editorial, “Mr Shastri’s Legacy,” a solution to most of humanity’s problems, whether social, political or educational, is suggested in a few lines: . armed forces have been vastly increased in recent years: but, in the long run internal stability and improved welfare will provide better defence than more arms.” —Yours, etc., SETH NEWELL. January 12, 1966. Sir, —Lal Bahadur Shastri made an historic pact for India and in the world of materialism and vast selfishness, was an example of self disci-
pline. Did poverty in youth lay the foundation of heart ills causing death. Is it not up to the world to provide food for the babes of India? While New Zealand has waste, extraordinary gambling totals, unlimited drinking and smoking, is there no means of sacrificing some of these unnecessary luxuries for those less fortunate, here and elsewhere? —Yours, etc., INDIA’S HERO. January 12, 1966.
