Southdown Rams Not Sought At Feilding

. “The Frees” Special Service FEILDING, January 11. Southdown rams met a depressed market at the annual Feilding stud ram fair today. Buying waa extremely selective and throughout the sale payings were heavy. Even the top studs suffered from the lack of buying power and many rams of good appearance and pedigree failed to sell under the hammer.

Sale returns were much lower. The sale grossed 5290gns for the 45 rams sold, an average of 117igns, and there were 84 passings. Last year 50 rams grossed 7915 gns and averaged 1584 gns. Passings last year totalled 45. The top price today was 330 gns compared with two sales at SOOgns last year. J. C. MedNcott and Son. Walmate, topped the sale with a Clifton Downs rams of straight Punchbowl breeding bought at 330 gm by K. Isaacson, Masterton. A second Clifton ram was passed at 7lgns. J. H. Bartlett’s top price of 325gns was made to I. McCarroll, Tauranga. J. H. Bartlett who fielded a Mg team of 29 Haeata rams, average only 1331

gn» for 18 sold. The Branksome stud sold only three out of eight offered to avenge 141.8 gns. F. W. Jarman, of Avonlea, Darfield, sold one at llOgns to Ford Bros., Wanganui, one at lOOgns to a Whangaret purchaser, one at 70gns to P. Cooper, Methven. and another at lOOgns to R. Callaghan, Ashburton. A D. WylHe and Company, Omlhl, sold a Burnfoot ram at IMgns to A. R. MarfeM, Blenheim, and passed two. Two rams were bought st SOgns by J. A. Brown, Oamaru, from G. L. and D. R, Crooks. Waipukurau. Jamea Petrie and Sons, Swannanoa, bought a Haeata ram from J. H. Bartlett at 125gna, but their Eynedale team of five rams failed to sell under the hammer. 1. M. Jordan, Blenheim, sold one of two offered at 75gns. R. G. Richards, Walmate. sold three at an average of llOgns. Inducing one at lOOgna to M. Barnett, Duneandei. C. McMMlan, Irwell, sold a Lochaber ram a< 90gn< to B. D. Stewart, Levin, and sold a I second ram at SOgns.
