BUILDING IN CITY
More Permits Last Month The 357 building permits issued by the City Council last month had a total value of £803,102 and brought the number issued since the beginning of the financial year to 3030 and the value to £5,464,592. Alterations to dwellings accounted for the greatest number of permits—234—but their value at £45,856, was exceeded by the £177,409 for 50 new dwellings. There were 12 permits issued for new flats to give 35 units at a total value of £72,930. Permits for other new buildings numbered 22 with a value of £345,270; and the 31 permits for alterations had a value of £157,833. December permits in 1964 were 30 fewer than those issued last month, and the value was £669,249; but the progress totals for the financial year were greater in both cases—--3192 and £6,003,430—than so far this year.
