IRONSAND FOR AUST.

Shipment From Westport <N.Z. Press Association) WESTPORT, January 11. A trial shipment of Westport ironsand will be sent to Australia for testing. A representative of RutileZircon Pty., Ltd., Newcastle (Mr I. R. Henderson) is expected in Westport on January 24 to organise the shipment. Between 1000 and 1500 tons was to have been sent but this has been reduced to about 700 tons. The sand will go to the company’s pilot plant at Newcastle and be subjected to the standard separation processes. The ilmenite may be offered for sale on the world market to gauge buyer potential. The sand will be taken from five beaches in the Westport area over which Buller Minerals, Ltd., has prospecting rights. The company recently signed agreements with several large Australian mining syndicates for the mining and processing of ironsands.
