Carnival Queen

Miss Patricia Manks. of Christchurch, was chosen “Queen of the Carnival” at Caroline Bay on Saturday evening.

In second place was Mrs Vilna McCabe (Timaru), and Miss Ruby Foley (Christchurch) was third. There were six entrants.

The winners were announced by the judge (Mrs R. L. Hislop of Invercargill) when the contestants made their final appearance in the sound shell before a crowd of several thousand.

Janice Karetai. aged 11, was judged “Princess of the Sands.” There were 103 entries, from whom 11 finalists were selected by the judge (Mrs A. S. Abernethy). A. Kerr. 11, was second, and 12-year-old Diane Sheed was third.
