Melbourne Powerhouse Draws With Toc H

The visiting Melbourne Power House team drew with the Christchurch Toe H club, 58-ali, in a special contest for the Talbot Cup, held in conjunction wilth the inter-club athletics meeting at Rugby Park on Saturday.

There was little separating the clubs throughout the day, the outcome of the contest depending on the final event, the junior relay medley. This was won narrowly by Toe H, thanks to a grand final 110 yards by R. Jones, and the meeting finished with both clubs level on points. Earlier Jones won the senior 100 yards in 10.8 sec, narrowly beating his under-age teammate, D. Campbell. Campbell won the quarter-mile in 52.65ec. W. Meecham (Power House) was second, three yards behind. One of the best performances by the Australians was in the 220 yards event. In spite of a very strong head wind, D. Friend (Power House) raced to the tape in 22.95ec. His clubmate, B. Patching, was second in 23.55ec.
