SATURDAY (Before Messrs R. Jones and G. W. Fairweather, Justices of the Peace) ASSAULT A fine of £lO, in default 12 days’ imprisonment, was imposed on Patrick Joseph Foley, aged 62, a painter, when he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault. Sergeant P. J. Alty said that Foley struck a sleeping man in a Christchurch board-ing-house. The man was bruised and lost a tooth. REMANDED Reginald Robert Hamilton, aged 17, a drainlayer’s labourer, was remanded on bail to today on a charge of obstructing the footpath in Cathedral square. Richard Marcus John McKenzie, aged 42, a clerk, was remanded in custody to today on a charge of attempted indecent assault on a male. Reginald Walter Ruffell, a painter, was remanded on bail to today on a charge of unlawfully converting a trailer. Christopher Michael Hansen, aged 20, a carpenter’s assistant, was remanded on bail to today on a charge of assault. Archibald McQtteen, aged 27, a seaman, was remanded in custody to today on a charge of being absent from his ship without leave.
