S.P.A.N.Z. ROUTE
N.A.C. Will Use DC3s (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 9. The National Airways Corporation would use DC3 aircraft on a daily two-way service between Auckland and Wellington by way of Rotorua, Taupo and Masterton, an airline official said today.
South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand, which runs a similar service on a Monday-to-Saturday basis, will finish at the end of next month.
Taupo Airport, which was opened by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) on Saturday, is licensed only for DC3 aircraft.
It is believed the airport could be licensed for Friendship and Bristol Freighter aircraft.
Mr Holyoake said the new service, subject to the approval of the Air Licensing Authority, would begin on March 1.
Hole In One.—A veteran Wanganui golfer, Mr J. H. Henson, holed in one on the 154-yard fifth hole at the Belmont Golf course r Saturday. He used a No. 7 iron. His tee shot landed on the green and rolled for 10ft into the hole.—(P.A.)
