CHINESE VESSEL
Defection To Formosa
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) TAIPEI, Jan. 9 Three members of the
crew of a Chinese landing craft defected to Nationalist China today after a bloody mutiny in which
the remaining seven crewmen were killed. The Nationalist Chinese Defence Ministry said the mutiny was led by three crewmen who killed the other crew members for refusing to defect. The landing craft had sailed from Foochow, and after the mutiny it headed for Matsu, where the three defectors were given a rousing welcome. The Defence Ministry did not say whether the bodies of the seven crewmen reported killed had been thrown overboard. According to a standing offer, each defector will be given a reward in gold.
