The Road Toll
Sir, —May I endorse “Traveller’s” letter in Friday’s issue? Of necessity I drive as my husband is unable to, and my biggest nightmare on the road is passing a double lamb truck or, worse still, a double log truck which almost straddles the white line (forbalance, I understand). This forces one on to the shingle making long overtaking a frightening ordeal to an elderly driver. The bitumen is too narrow for safety on many roads. Surely this is false economy with so many lives at stake these days on the roads. —Yours, etc., ELDERLY. January 7, 1966.
