Child Choked By Wringer
GVetr Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 7. A two-year-old girl was killed when her arms were caught in the rollers of a washing machine at her home todav.
She was: June Diana Parata, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. L. Parata, of Barry’s road. Henderson. The child was dragged against the rollers and choked. Died After Fall A painter died after falling less than 14 feet when scaffolding collapsed at the steel pre-fabricating division of Fletcher Steel. Ltd., at Favona road, Otahuhu, this morning. He '-as: Maurice Alan 8100 'field, married, with three children. of Bairds road. Otar-a. An attempt to save him failed when a workmate, who had an arm-hold, lost his grip Another man on the scaffolding grabbed a hanging cord and hauled himself to safety. The four men were painting a gantry crane at the works. Shot In Chest A girl was accidentally shot in the chest by her brother at her home in Waihi today. The girl, Barbara Jane Hayward, aged two years and a half, the daughter of Mr G. Hayward. of 57 Gilmore street. Waihi. was taken to the Thames Hospital, where her condition late tonight was reported to be satisfactory. Her brother, aged about four, fired a rifle through the side of the hut where h’ was playing. The bullet hit the girl, who was outside.
Overcome By Gas
An Auckland Gas Company workman who was overcome by fumes while working on a leaking main today was revived by his workmates. The man, Mr Andrew Kahaki, of Titirangi Beach, was down a hole in Alten road, Parnell, when he collapsed. He was dragged out and had been partly revived by mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when a St. John’s Ambulance arrived with an oxygen resuscitator.
Mr Kahaki was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.
Condition Fair
, The condition of Mr John I James, of Hopper street, Wel- | lington,. who was seriously I injured in a road-roller accident at Ngauranga yesterday, was reported to be fair in the Wellington Hospital tonight.
The five-ton road roller Mr James w r as driving rolled down a bank and overturned, pinning him.
Boy Drowned
An eight-year-old Taneatua boy was drowned when he was swept off a rock by a wave at Waikawa, eight miles north of Te Kaka, this morning. He was
Frankie Tiopira. son of Mr S. Tiopira, of McKenzie street, Taneatua.
A search for the body Is being organised by Constable F. Jamieson, of Te Kaha.
