Meat Industry Research Institute of New Zealand (Inc.), working in the fields of muscle metabolism and structure. The Institute is the central research organisation for the New Zealand Meat Industry, and it undertakes both applied and basic investigations. The Electron Microscopist will be encouraged to initiate and conduct original investigations within an active academic and strong research environment. He will also be expected to give advice and help to the adjoining Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre (animal and soil re. search) of the Department of Agriculture. The Institute’s laboratories are spacious and well-equipped and with excellent facilities. The electron microscope (Philips R.M. 200) is housed in a newly designed suite. Applicants are required to have an Honours Degree, or equivalent qualification, with experience in the use of the electron microscope, preferably in biological research. A Superannuation Scheme operates, and professional officers are given the opportunity at intervals for overseas study leave. SALARY RANGE: £lBOO to £2500 per annum, according to qualifications and experience. Prospects of advancement are excellent and will be based on scientific merit.
