DESALINATED WATER

Advantages To Aust. Seen (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) CANBERRA, Jan. 6. Nuclear power will enable vast uninhabited areas of Australia to be industrially and socially developed. This will come after desalinated water is taken to the areas—produced at a reasonable cost by nuclear plants. An executive member of the Australian Atomic Energy Commission (Mr M. Timbs) said today the desalination of sea and brackish water by atomic power plants was a major development. “It will contribute significantly to the provision of essential water supplies for urban, domestic and industrial use,” he said “The cost of water produced by large nuclear plants will be quite reasonable.

“It will enable us to get water into places where supplies are now inadequate. And it will lead to substantial industrial and social growth in areas currently uninhabited, or will transform the lives of many less fortunate people.”
