Fire Danger Reduced

The danger of forest fires in Canterbury has diminished during the last 48 hours after general rain throughout the province on Thursday. The senior ranger for the New Zealand Forest Service (Mr T. E. C. Bridge) said that falls of up to half an inch of rain had been recorded 'at most of the forests. I “Provided we don’t get 'strong nor-westers and high temperatures things should be I all right for the next few ■ days,” he said. Mr Bridge described Janu ary and early February as the most dangerous time for forest fires. “The present situation could be regarded as moderately ' dangerous,” he said. He will make an aerial inspection of forests in the Canterbury conservancy early next week.
