CHRISTMAS STAMP
Popular Issue All Sold
The 1965 Christmas stamp was sold out, and was the most popular ever produced by the Post Office. The acting Chief Postmaster in Christchurch (Mr M. Johnston) said yesterday that sales for the district totalled £31.000.
The number of stamps sold in the city and district was 2.480.000. More than half the stamps were sold across the counter at the Chief Post Office.
Mr Johnston said that the stamp had sold out on the Wednesday before Christmas Day.
Sales of Christmas stamps have increased steadily since the first issue in 1961. The 1965 sales exceeded those for 1964 by 320,000. Stamps commemorating the eleventh' Commonwealth Parliamentary conference in Wellington had also been very popular.
