AIRCRAFT EXPLODES
Mishap Near Pleiku (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SAIGON, January 7. Teams went out today to seek bodies and possible survivors from a United States C-130 transport plane, which exploded as it was carrying ammunition into Pleiku airfield, about 240 miles northeast of Saigon, this morning. Pilots in the area reported two explosions on the plane before it crashed. They said there was no hope of survivors.
The number aboard was not immediately known. A C-130 Hercules carries a five-man crew and does not normally take pasengers on ammunition flights.
