CADUCEUS AT STUD IN SOUTHLAND
“Th* Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL, June 16. A former champion pacer in Caduceus, which proved himself one of the greatest ever bred in this country, Cardigan Bay and Highland Fling included, is to do stud duty in Southland this coming spring. He will stand on the Wyndham property of Mr D. P. Dynes. Caduceus proved himself a horse of iron constitution—he raced for 10 seasons and won 55 races. By a champion sire in U. Scott he was bred and reared in Southland on the Edendale property of Mr R. Wylie, a few miles from where he will stand at the stud. His dam, Little Ada, was a sister to Queen Ayesha, the dam of another great pacer in Highland Fling. Little Ada was by Frank Worthy (a son of Guy Axworth from Royal Empress, by Logan Pointer). Caduceus won 28 races in New Zealand and 18 in Australia for a grand total of £68,204 10s. His performances were climaxed by his success in the 1960 InterDominion grand final. He won £47,795 10s in an American campaign, bringing his total earnings to £116,000.
Caduceus took his fastest record under race conditions
—a mile in Imin 57 2-ssec—-as a 12-year-old. He served a few mares before going to America and from one of these matings has left a winner in Honourable Son. He arrived back in New Zealand a little more than 12 months ago and stood his first full season in Canterbury last spring. Answer To Correspondent: —“Argument,” Otira.—The person you mention had no connexion with Harold Logan.
