AUCKLAND, June 16. Mr E. Lanauze, whose baby daughter, is making good progress in the National Women’s Hospital after being flown from the Chatham Islands on Monday, will not see the child until she is eight or nine weeks old. Mrs Lanauze, who is herself receiving post-natal treatment at the hospital, will remain in. Auckland until August when the next ship sails for the islands'. The three-day-old baby, Judith, is her fourth child and only daughter. When Judith was born Mr Lanauze was on Pitt Island—the smaller of the main Chatham settlements. He was unable to cross to the island and see his wife
and child as a strong easterly wind was blowing. After Judith underwent an emergency blood-replacement operation bn the island the child and her mother were flown 600 miles to Auckland by a Royal New Zealand Air Force Sunderland. Mrs Lanauze said this evening that she would stay with relatives here until the next ship left for the island in the first week of August She will be about 12 days in hospital. The reason for the baby’s blood change was rhesus incompatability.
