COBHAM INVESTED WITH GARTER

Queen Elizabeth on Monday invested the former New Zealand Governor-General, Viscount Cobham (above, with Lady Cobham), as a Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter. The Duke of Edinburgh; the Queen Mother and the Duke of Gloucester attended the investiture. Lord Cobham had as his supporters the Duke of Norfolk and the Duke of Beaufort. An installation service was held later in St. George's Chapel, in the castle grounds. The installation ceremony was held in the Throne Room at Windsor Castle. The Queen buckled the jewelled garter around the knee of each of the knights and invested them with the insignia of the order—the riband, star, mantle and collar.
