Cricket Broadcasts
Sir, —Keen interest is taken in the • cricket tests by the sporting public of New Zealand. It is therefore very disappointing to learn of the very limited coverage the Broadcasting Corporation is giving these games after the excellent coverage they have given on world-wide sporting events in the last year. Perhaps the Director-General of Broadcasting could advise if there is any intention to give a wider coverage on 2YA’s all-night session.—Yours, etc., CRICKET FAN.
June 5, 1964. [The Director-General of Broadcasting (Mr G. H. Stringer) said: “Extended coverage will be given if and when the test series or any
match in the series reaches a stage of interest warranting longer commentaries. Before 2YA' began its regular allnight transmissions the station was able to broadcast full commentaries of cricket tests between England and Australia being played in England. The present series is the first in England since 2YA began its regular allnight service, which now has a wide and varied audience, including many listeners with tastes other • than cricket. This audience, like our cricket listeners, must'be catered for.”]
