A-FORCE IN FRANCE

Bombers Now Operational

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) RHEIMS, June 16. The French Armed Forces Minister, Mr Pierre Messmer; said this week that part of France’s airborne nuclear strike force was already operational.

Nuclear bomb - carrying supersonic planes of the “first generation” strike force would be replaced by ballistic missiles carrying thermonuclear warheads in the 19705, he said.

France also needed land, sea and air forces capable ofchecking any attack on French territory, or that of her allies, he said.

The, forces, to include five land divisions, two tactical air . groups and a 250,000strong naval force, all nuclear armed, would be capable of intervening inside or outside Europe, within or outside’the Atlantic alliance, Mr Messmer said.
