Danger Of Fish And Chips Becoming Respectable
(Special Correspondent N.Z P.A.)
LONDON, June 16. Fish and chips, one of Britain’s favourite meals, usually served with, vinegar and wrapped up in newspaper are to go “all posh” if notice is taken of the deliberations of the fish fryers’ conference. Instead of newspaper, the idea is that fish and chips should be served in “welldesigned grease-proof cartons or carrier bags.” It is. also suggested that the 14,000 shops in Britain should think about taking telephone orders and deliver fish and chips to the front—or back—door. The main idea is that the “image” of fish and chips should be improved to keep up with other forms of catering. Some women, the conference was told, would not be seen going into a fish-and-chip shop—because of the neighbours.
The Fish Information Service is sending out a booklet to fish fryers on bow to improve their service. But many people say they still prefer their fish and chips in newspaper.
