Good Hockey Goal-Keeper

For many seasons the Sydenham hockey club has been well served by its veteran goal-keeper, John Pauling. Sydenham is carrying quite a number of young and inexperienced players, and its goal-keeper is usually a busy person. Pauling's coolness, sound anticipation, and correct positioning have been of enormous benefit to his team and a constant source of frustration to its opponents. He has been responsible for many saves of sufficient difficulty to be quite spectacular, and he shows ample courage in dealing with hard, rising shots. His kicking, although not as powerful as that of some of his contemporaries, is well judged, and he shows the discrimination of long experience in knowing when tn advance to meet an attack and when to stay in his goalmouth. His ability must be a source of confidence to his team-mates.
