Arbitration Court Ruling
Objections to the Canterbury Frozen Meat Co. Ltd.. Cross Brothers', and Knights Butchery. Ltd., being cited as parties to the Canterbury bacon factories and smallgoods factories workers’ award have not been upheld by the Court of Arbitration. The Court holds that the Freezing Workers’ Union is not entitled to cover employees of M.M.M. Ltd. and the company will be struck out as an original party. That union will cover the employees of the other three companies named.
In a new award for bacon factories and small-goods factories workers the wages of adult workers are increased by amounts ranging from 10/- a week to s'a week. The wages of youths are increased by amounts ranging from 2'6 a week to 27 6 a week. The provisions of the award concerning wages are deemed to have come into force on October 3, 1960. The rest of the award came into force on May 16, 1961. On April 14, the Arbitration Court heard the objections to the companies being cited and counter-submis-sions Mr P. M. Velvin, secretary of the Canterbury Amalgamated Shop Assistants’ and Related Trades (other than Grocers' Hairdressers’ and Tobacconists' assistants) Union, on behalf of the union objected to the Canterbury Frozen Meat Co, Ltd-. Cross Bros., Knights Butchery, ■ Ltd., and M.M.M. Ltd., being cited as parties to the award. Objections to being cited were also lodged individually by Knights Butchery, Ltd., and M.M.M., Ltd.
