Crippled Children Treated
Field officers had travelled 1500 miles in the last three weeks to see 36 crippled children at clinics and to transport 85 to and from treatments, the general committee of the Canterbury and West Coast branch of the Crippled Children Society was advised at a meeting this week. Several children had been in hospital, and regular visits had been made to the Public. Burwood and Princess Margaret Hospitals by the officers.
The annual statistics' of children registered with the branch showed that there were 600 children on the books at March 31, 479 in Canterbury and 121 on the West Coast. Of these 165 were up to five years of age. 211 between six and 10 years, 163 from 11 to 15 years and 61 were 16 years or more.
The largest groups with disabilities recorded were:— Congenital disability. 304; cerebral palsy, 142; poliomyelitis, 42; disease of the joints, 41.
