MAORI CARVING FOR MALAY REGIMENT.—The 2nd Battalion, New Zealand Regiment, is to present a Maori carving to the 7th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment, to commemorate the close association of the two units during the latter stages of the emergency in Malaya. This photograph was taken at the Dominion Museum, Wellington, where the carving (a traditional figure erected on stockades and meeting-houses) was executed by a leading Maori craftsman, Mr C. Tuarau. From left are Lieutenant G. Dudding, of Army Headquarters; Mr Tuarau; Dr. R. A. Falla, Director of the Dominion Museum; and Lieutenant-Colonel R. W. K. Ainge, Director of Infantry, who accepted the carving on behalf of the Colonel of the New Zealand Regiment.
