THEFT FROM SHOPS
Police Arrest Three Men
Extensive investigations by detectives after three smash-and-grab raids in Christchurch early yesterday morning led to the arrest of three men. The detectives found a large quantity of goods hidden in premises in the city during their inquiries.
The three men were arrested at 10 a.m. yesterday They will appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Detective Constable Bromwell. Constable D White and Constable N Dennehv investigated the ra ; ds Electrical goods, radios, and clothing valued at £165 were taken from the disnlav windows of the three suburban shops. The biggest theft was from Riccartcn Electrical Supplies, Ltd.. 136 Riccarton road. Seven transistor radios and radios valued at £l4O were taken from inside the window
The proprietor (Mr C Ellis) said the thieves annarently took what they could reach hurrtedlv through the large hole which 'hey shattered in the window Considerable force was used, and glass was found scattered right to the back of the shop Shirts and jerseys valued at £2O were stolen from Henry's Dranery. in Riccarton road, when the window was broken between 315 a.m. and 5 a m.
After breaking the display window of Electrical Construction, Ltd., in Coronation street, at 430 am., thieves had to make a hurried getaway when a milkman came by on his round Two electrical heaters valued about £5 were taken A car was seen driving away, and the matter was reported . to the police by the milkman.
