CATHOLIC WOMEN MEET

Addington League

The Addingiton branch of the Catholic Women's League held its third birthday party in the parish ball recently. The president (Mrs K. Tohill) welcomed the guests, who included the Rev. J. Finnerty (parish priest), the Rev. J. Coleman (spiritual director), the Rev. C. Horgan, Mrs J. P. Donnelly (diocesan president), Mrs J. Coakley (president of the Halsweil branch) and members, and Mrs P. Curran (president of the Kaiapoi branch) and members. Mrs Tohill announced that £25 would be given to the St. Peter the Apostle fund to help Asian students in New Zealand.

Fathers Finnerty and Coleman and Mrs Donelly tendered birthday greetings. The town branch choir, conducted by Mrs J. Davies, and accompanied by Mrs V. Boswell, presented choral items, solos and duets. Three songs were sung by Mr John Graham, accompanied by Mrs W. E. Olds.

During supper, which had been prepared and served by the committee. Father Finnerty cut the birthday cake, which had been iced by the treasurer (Miss M. Terry).
