Laundry Workers' Award
An increase of 8s to 9s a week has been granted by the Court of Arbitration to male workers employed under the Canterbury launddry workers, dyers and drycleaners’ award. Female workers have been granted increases of 7s M to 8s a week. Workers employed by the hospital boards are exempted from the award. Female workers more than 21 will now be paid a minimum weekly wage of £B, an increase of ss. Increases of 7s 3d a week will be paid now to workers employed at hand ironing, shirt and collar machining and substantially employed at sorting, marking and checking. The terms of the award, which were reached by the assessors in conciliation council, are retrospective to April 7, 1961, and will remain in force until October 6, 1962.
