ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

£146,000 For Addington

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, May 18. Additional electrical equipment and a new switchroom had been approved for the Addington sub-station, the Minister of Electricity (Mr Goosman) said today. The cost would be some £ 146,000. “This will allow the Electricity Department to maintain its policy of close cooperation with supply authorities in ensuring that electricity is always available to satisfy the growing needs of a growing community," Mr Goosman said. “In this case the' normal growth in the Christchurch Municipal Electricity Department’s central and southern areas will call for additional transformer capacity at Addington, and for additional switchgear. “Present transformer capacity is 80.000 kva. Another 30,000 kva transformer bank will now be purchased and installed, with its associated switchgear. “There will be 14 new 11,000 volt indoor switchgear panels, for which a new switchroom will have to be built since there is not enough room in the present switchroom.” Mr Goosman said that the work at Addington would tie in with the Municipal Electricity Department’s plans. It would fill that department's immediate needs for supplying its new Montreal street sub-station, and also cope with the needs of the near future for the proposed new Halswell and Bealey avenue district sub-stations.
