PENRHYN IS OUTBREAK

Gastro-Enteritis Under Control (N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 16 The latest report from the Cook Islands showed that the outbreak of gastro-enteritis on Penrhyn Island seemed to be well under control, the Minister of Island Territories (Mr Gotz) said today. "There have only been three new cases in the last two weeks.” he said. The number of cases of gastro-enteritis on Penrhyn is now 52. This is considerably less than the figure of several hundred mentioned in an earlier report. The population of the island is almost 700. Earlier this month an R.N.Z.A.F. Sunderland from Lauthala Bay. Fiji, flew supplies of drugs to Penrhyn. It was evident that these had almost brought the outbreak to an end, Mr Gotz said.
